Chapter 26-38 Summary
Matt was kept by the Keepers in an orphanage and met Fidelito, Chacho, and Ton Ton. He had to always recite the Five Principals of Good Citizenship and the Four Attitudes Leading to Right-Mindfulness. He was then sent to work at the Plankton Factory, where they had to harvest shrimp and plankton for dog food. They were also forced to eat plankton. Matt had to learn how to do different things, and had to work hard. Jorge, one of the keepers, wanted to beat him, but he beat Ton Ton instead. Matt had jumped on Jorge when he started to beat Fidelito. After that, both Ton Ton and Matt were taken to the infirmary for medical treatment. Luna, a keeper at the infirmary, told Jorge about the tattoo on Matt's foot. Matt and Chacho were thrown in the whale boneyard. Matt got out just fine, but Chacho broke some ribs and had to be picked up by a mechanical arm attached to the shrimp harvester. The shrimp harvester was driven by Ton Ton with Fidelito sitting next to him. They then escaped to San Luis, to the Convent of Santa Clara. Matt and Fidelito walked and met a man and lady that were celebrating the Day of the Dead. Guapo, the man, took them to the convent where they were trying to get to Chacho, who was in the hospital. Jorge was there trying to take Chacho and Ton Ton back to the factory when Esparanza stepped in and took control. Matt is not a clone anymore, and he becomes the ruler of Opium. Tam Lin and everybody else died except for Celia, Daft Donald and Mr. Ortega from poisonous wine. Tam Lin saved Daft Donald, but Tam Lin died because of the twenty children he killed in a bombing back in Scotland. Matt then ended the book with how he would run the new empire of Opium.
